Xuyên tâm liên đã được chứng minh có những tác dụng cơ bản như: kháng vi khuẩn, virus, bảo vệ gan, chống viêm, chống đái tháo đường, chống ung thư. Xuyên tâm liên thường được trồng bằng hạt giống. Tuy nhiên, sự ngủ đông của hạt là một hạn chế lớn trong canh tác xuyên tâm liên về mặt thương mại. Mặc dù đã sử dụng môi trường có hormone và xử lý hạt bằng nước nóng để khắc phục sự ngủ đông của hạt nhưng vẫn không đủ để đáp ứng số lượng cần thiết do sự khác nhau giữa các cây, sự ra rễ của cây con ít và chậm phát triển. Nghiên cứu này khảo sát ảnh hưởng của nồng độ các chất điều hoà sinh trưởng thực vật khác nhau (benzyladenine, kinetin) đến khả năng bật chồi và nhân chồi xuyên tâm liên từ mẫu đoạn thân mang mầm ngủ. Mẫu đoạn thân mang mầm ngủ được khử trùng với Javel 25% trong 7 phút để tạo nguồn mẫu in vitro ban đầu. Môi trường MS bổ sung 1,0 mg/L benzyladenine cho tỷ lệ bật chồi đạt 100%. Môi trường MS bổ sung 0,5 mg/L benzyladenine kết hợp 1,0 mg/L kinetin cho hệ số nhân chồi đạt cao nhất. Môi trường MS ½ bổ sung 0,5 mg/L Indole-3-butyric acid thích hợp cho sự tạo rễ của xuyên tâm liên in vitro.
