This study investigates the synthesis of a composite material combining biochar derived from sugarcane bagasse with MgFe₂O₄ magnetic nanoparticles as an adsorbent, aiming to optimize adsorption conditions for treating phosphate pollution in wastewater. The sol-gel method was employed to produce MgFe₂O₄ nanoparticles, followed by the integration with biochar using an ultrasonic device. The effects of calcination temperature and the biochar-to-nanoparticle ratio were examined. The resulting materials, both before and after adsorption, were characterized using SEM and EDS-mapping techniques. Results revealed that the MgFe₂O₄ modified biochar (MgFe₂O₄@BC) exhibited superior performance compared to pristine biochar (BC). The study evaluated factors influencing the adsorption efficiency and capacity for PO₄³⁻, including the MgFe₂O₄@BC ratio, solution pH, adsorbent dosage, initial PO₄³⁻ concentration, and contact time. Findings indicate that optimal performance was achieved at a 5% (w/w) MgFe₂O₄@BC modification ratio, alongside optimized pH, adsorbent dosage, initial PO₄³⁻ concentration, and contact time.
